Why It Was Cancelled[]

  1. Zoolander 2 flopped at the box office and received negative reviews from critics, audiences and fans of the first film.
  2. Ben Stiller decided not to make a third film following the aforementioned reason. He later revealed in a February 2022 interview with Esquire that while he doesn't view Zoolander 2 flopping a great experience, he is happy that it allowed him to pursue doing more serious, non-comedic work such as the Showtime series Escape at Dannemora and the Apple TV+ series Severance. Stiller believes that if Zoolander 2 preformed well, he would have gone on to make Zoolander 3 and similar zany comedies and would likely not work on any non-comedic projects.

  • Zoolander 3 will most likely never see the light of day, thus making the Zoolander franchise a duology. The spin-off animated movie Zoolander: Super Model is not counted.
  • An animated spin-off film titled Zoolander: Super Model, which was originally going to be a web series, was released on Netflix in August 2016 in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland, nearly six months after the sequel was released, and later worldwide on CBS All Access (now Paramount+) in May 2020.
  • In 2023, Ben Stiller reprised his role as Derek Zoolander in a Pepsi Zero Sugar commercial that aired during Super Bowl LVII.
