In the 1980s, plans for a film adaptation of Hudson Talbott's children's book, We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story. Hanna-Barbera was the first company to contact Hudson Talbott about obtaining rights to it.

John Musker and Ron Clements were also interested in adapting the book for Walt Disney Feature Animation, as a potential project after The Little Mermaid, but was cancelled all together.
Amblimation & Universal Pictures released the film on November 24, 1993, but was a box office failure, despite all the praise it got.
