In January 2011, Don Cheadle confirmed that a War Machine film was in development. Joe Robert Cole was hired to write the film. But the film was never released.
Plot[]
A lot is known of the plot, except it involved Rhodey going rogue and becoming a fugitive in order to complete a forbidden and politically volatile mission that he viewed as morally right. It would followed the events of Iron Man 2 but the actual plot is unknown.

Why It Was Cancelled[]
- The movie was put on hold since its plot conflicted with the plans for Rhodey in Iron Man 3.
Results[]
- The film was cancelled.
- The head script writer, Robert Cole, went on to co-write Black Panther with Ryan Coogler.
- War Machine would go on to appear in other films in The Marvel Cinematic Universe.
- On December 10, 2020 it was confirmed during Disney's Investor Day that War Machine would be the protagonist of a TV series named Marvel Studios' Armor Wars.
- However, on September 29, 2022, it was announced that Armor Wars would be retooled from a series to a movie, since the story fits that format better.
