Venom is a proposed spin-off film of the Spider-Man film series. It was supposed to be directed by Gary Ross

Plot

Little is known about the supposed plotline of the film. Apparently Venom would have been portrayed as an antihero and that the villain Carnage was apparently supposed to be the film's antagonist. As a well created villain, Carnage was supposed to be a partner of Spider-Man.

Cast

  • Topher Grace as Eddie Brock/Venom
  • Jim Carrey as Cletus Kasady/Carnage
  • Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker/Spider-Man
  • Rebecca Fergusou as Anne Weying
  • J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson
  • Uma Thurman as Leslie Gesneria/Agony

Why It Was Cancelled.

  1. Sony cancelled Spider-Man 4 in 2010 and all of the Spider-Man projects connected with the Sam Raimi trilogy after the failure of Spider-Man 3 and the withdrawal of Sam Raimi
  2. The Amazing Spider-Man was going to be made, but with a different cast and director.

Result

  • While the Gary Ross adaptation of Venom has since been discontinued, a standalone Venom film has since been revived and is set to kick off a new shared universe that is adjunct to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
  • In 2018, A film on Venom was released with a new director, Ruben Fleischer. A sequel is in the works which will be directed by Andy Serkis due to Fleischer being unavailable while directing the Uncharted movie adaptation. And a sequel released in 2021
