A live-action drama film based upon The Sims was announced in 2007. The film rights had been purchased by 20th Century Fox in the same year. The film itself was to be written by Brian Lynch and produced by John Davis.

Why It Was Cancelled[]
- When Disney bought out 20th Century Fox, a large chunk of Fox's upcoming movies had to be cancelled. This was one of them.

- In March 2024, a new film is in development by Amazon MGM Studios with LuckyChap Entertainment and Vertigo Entertainment producing. Kate Herron will direct and write the screenplay with Briony Redman.
