In 2013, DreamWorks Animation made a deal with Viz Media to make anime movies. In June 5, 2015, DreamWorks announced that it will make an adapted based on manga Sailor Moon. It will be a CGI animated film. In September 25, 2015, Tom McGrath and Rob Leterman, the directors of Madagascar, Monsters Vs. Aliens and Megamind, would work on the project. In August 2017, the film released date is July 3, 2020, however it got delayed to September 24, 2021. However, was cancelled in November 2020.

Why It Was Cancelled[]

  1. The film suffered from script issues (mentioned earlier), but also they caused the animation suffered from the scene as well.
  2. In early 2015, DreamWorks Animation decided to close down (PDI) Pacific Data Images and laying over 500 DreamWorks employees. As a result the film got delayed to September 2021.
  3. DreamWorks dropped the project in November 2020, along with Migration.

Results[]

  • The DreamWorks version of the film was shelved.
  • Some elements of the movie was used in Pretty Cure All Stars: Minna De Utau Kiseki No Mahou.
  • In July 2023, Warner Bros. Pictures announced that it will pickup the animated adapted film of the same name, On November 2, 2023, Warner Bros. Pictures Animation would have a new director Mark Osborne, and Patrick Sean Smith. On February 8, 2024, The film will release on July 10, 2026.
