Note: Please do not mark this for deletion. This film WAS going to be made by Disney. And if you don't believe me, just look up "McScam". If that still isn't enough, go check on news articles for the proof.
In August 2018, it was announced that a crime film based on the board game Monopoly was in production at 20th Century Fox and also Disney.[1]
Plot[]
It would of been based on the 2001 Monopoly McDonalds crime conspiracy. Ex-cop Jerome "Uncle Jerry" Paul Jacobson rigged the McDonald’s Monopoly game in 2001, and is now allegedly working with organized crime to steal millions of dollars and ensure nobody won the game's biggest prizes.
Development[]
First announced in 2018, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon planned to team up for the film, with the former directing and the latter starring in an undisclosed role; both confirmed to be producing the film itself through their Pearl Street company. The script was to be written Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, with David Klawans executive producing.
“The camera crew listened patiently to his rambling story, silently recognizing the inconsequential details found in stories told by liars,” the story reads. “They suspected that Hoover was not a lucky winner, but part of a major criminal conspiracy to defraud the fast-food chain of millions of dollars. The two men behind the camera were not from McDonald’s. They were undercover agents from the FBI. This was a McSting.”
Why It Was Cancelled[]
- When Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, a large chunk of their movies had to be cancelled.
- Jermaine Jackson had a demonstrable lack of interest of being involved in the project.
Results[]
- The Monopoly film from Disney was permanently cancelled.
- Monopoly remains as a board game series.
- In January 2019, Kevin Hart signed up to making an animated Monopoly film for Lionsgate, however, it is not known if the film is still in development, as the film's last update was in 2019 ever since it was first announced.[2]
