In the early 2000s', after the wind was caught of lead writer Ken Penders’ Sonic Armageddon, there was an alleged attempt to get an animated adventure feature film centered around Knuckles the Echidna into development. Ken himself was planning to pitch the Knuckles film to DreamWorks SKG. However, it did not go as planned.

Plot[]

The plot is currently unknown. However, it could of had some connection to Knuckles and the Chaos Emeralds.

Development[]

Nothing much is known of the development. Except that Ken Penders was on board as a producer. But nothing else whether it would be either traditional drawn or CGI animated is unknown.

Why It Was Cancelled[]

  1. Ken's proposals were rejected (and backfired). Not because of disinterest, but due to several legal complications regarding the copyrights to any Sonic characters.
  2. Studio executives said the story will somewhat essentially render the film's creation.
  3. Several other executives said there is a license through tbe interwining roles of Japanese and American-conceived Sonic characters and concepts entirely limited to media where they first appeared.

Results[]

  • The film was permanently cancelled.
  • Knuckles the Echidna remains as a SEGA franchise character, with no animation movies at all.
  • On February 15, 2022, it was announced that a Knuckles the Echidna TV show was confirmed to be in the works. It will premiere on April 26, 2024 on Paramount+. And it is also confirmed that Idris Elba will be reprising his movie Knuckles role.
