The Mummy: Rise of the Aztecs was a planned third sequel to the Stephen Sommer's The Mummy series. Which in turn would have been a sequel to Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

Plot

The O'Connell family go to Peru to fight against the mummy of an Aztec emperor (portrayed by Antonio Banderas).

Why It Was Cancelled

  1. Despite Maria Bello and Luke Ford's signing to star in the sequel, it was scrapped due to the negative reception of Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

Results

  • The Mummy: Rise of the Aztecs was permanently cancelled.
  • The series was rebooted with another Mummy film which had a 2017 release. However, it flopped at the box office and was panned by critics and audiences.
