The Legend of Zelda was a cancelled animated film adaptation of Nintendo's video game series and franchise of the same name, which was supposed to be released by fellow studio Imagi Studios.
Plot[]
The plot would follow the same story as the games.
Why It Was Cancelled[]
- Imagi Studios shut down production and went out of business due to the box office failure of the 2009 Astroboy film.
- Nintendo rejected the pitch due to the failure of the 1993 live-action film adaptation of Super Mario Bros.
Results[]
- The film was permanently cancelled.
- Illumination began development on an animated Super Mario Bros. movie, and if successful, could make more Nintendo films. With the Mario movie, now being a critical and financial success, Zelda is presumably included.
- Nintendo is collaborating with Avi Arad and Sony Pictures to work on an upcoming live-action Zelda movie.
Trivia[]
- If you listen closely, one of the sounds the hostile creatures make (name not known) is directly taken from the Tyrannosaurus rex from Jurassic Park during the Gallimimus chase scene.[1]
