The Divergent Series: Ascendant was a proposed sequel to The Divergent Series: Allegiant, which was slated to be released in June of 2017, but ended up being cancelled.[1]
Plot[]
It covers the second part of the Allegiant book.
Why It Was Cancelled[]
- The film was cancelled when The Divergent Series: Allegiant lost money at the box office to Zootopia and Shailene Woodley and Naomi Watts (also for Shut In) both ended up getting Razzie nominations for Worst Actress for their performances as Beatrice "Tris" Prior and Evelyn Johnson-Eaton.
Results[]
- The film was permanently cancelled and the filmmakers tried to rework the film into a TV movie with a different cast, but its network Starz announced in December 2018 they were no longer seeking to develop it into a television movie, citing the lack of interest from the cast and with Starz and Lionsgate executives.
- The Divergent film franchise ended up being a trilogy.
