Addams Family sketch Charles Addams

In March 2010, Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures were going to make The Addams Family and was going to be a stop motion animated film based on Charles Addams' drawings. Tim Burton was chosen to be co-producer and possibly director. Production halted on the film in July 2013.

The plot is the same story plot as the 2019 film but with stop-motion.

Why It Was Cancelled[]

  1. Universal lost the rights to The Addams Family. Ironically, Universal did have the rights to the 2019 movie internationally and they did release the movie on DVD and Blu-ray due to the fact that MGM released films from the United Artists releasing joint venture having home media distribution from Universal Studios Home Entertainment.

  • Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer announced that the studio was going to make a CGI animated Addams Family film which released in 2019 it’s was animated by Nitrogen Studios who were known for animating Season 12 to 16 of Thomas (the Tank Engine) & Friends and even animating the infamous movie called Happily N'Ever After.
    • But they animated too the 2016 adult animated comedy Sausage Party.
  • An adaptation of The Addams Family is reported to be shown on Netflix with Tim Burton at the helm. It was revealed to be "Wednesday", and was officially released in December 2022.
