In January 2009, it was announced that Imagi Animation Studios, alongside Hikari Productions and Metro Goldwyn Meyer, were producing a CGI film called T28, originally scheduled to release in 2012.[1]
Plot[]
The story follows the adventures of a boy who can control a giant robot called Tetsujin 28, created by the Japanese military as a secret weapon during World War II, with his special handheld joystick.
Development[]
The film was first announced in 2009, with multiple studios alongside Imagi to make it a reality, basing it off comic book author Mitsuteru Yokoyama's classic giant robot manga and anime Tetsujin 28. Imagi Studios' creative director Felix Ip revealed on his blog in December 2008 (one month before the film was announced) that Imagi had created the computer-graphics animation test before he became fully occupied on the Astro Boy film, which hit theaters in October 2009.
Why It Was Cancelled[]
- Imagi Animation Studios went defunct in 2010 due to the box office failure of 2009's Astro Boy.
Results[]
- The film was permanently cancelled. Despite its cancellation, the teaser trailer is still up.
- No other animation studios have picked up the film.
Trivia[]
- During production, the film also went under the title of Tetsujin and Black Ox.
- Imagi launched a website for T28 back in 2009, though it has since been shut down and is now met with an expired site message.[2]
