NOTE: Although it's not a cancelled movie, it focuses of the theatrical version with Richard Donner.
Before the release of Superman II in 1980, Richard Donner was planned to finished Superman II after the release of Superman: The Movie in 1978. It was supposed to be released around late-1979 (due to the fact at the very end of the first movie with "Next year Superman II").
Plot[]
The plot is exactly the same as Superman II, but with various of scenes that were never filmed by Donner.
Why It Was Cancelled[]
- Richard Donner was fired by the Salkinds near the end of producition of this movie, due to strong disagreements with them, leaving Superman II being 75%-100% completed.
Results[]
- The film missed the 1979 release spot and it was released in 1980 without Donner's involvement.
- Superman II director Richard Donner was replaced with Richard Lester, to finished Superman II. Although it was mostly filmed by Richard Donner, some scenes were directed by Richard Lester.
- In 2006, Richard Donner released his own version of Superman II on DVD with the "Richard Donner Cut" as he intended to be his original cut.
