Sex and the City 3 was a proposed sequel to the 2010 film Sex and the City 2 that was set to be the third and final installment in the Sex and the City film trilogy, based on the HBO TV series and the book of the same name. It was announced in December 2016.

Plot[]

The film would've been about Carrie Bradshaw going through her grieving process following Mr. Big's death, as well as Samantha Jones receiving sexting and nude pictures from Miranda Hobbes’ 14-year-old son, Brady. Rest of the plot is currently unknown, but it most likely would have been almost the same as the Sex and the City revival And Just Like That...

Cast[]

  • Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw
  • Kim Cattrall as Samantha Jones
  • Kristin Davis as Charlotte York Goldenblatt
  • Cynthia Nixon as Miranda Hobbes
  • Chris North as John James Preston/Mr. Big

Rest of the cast unknown.

Why It Was Cancelled[]

  1. Sex and the City 2 received negative reviews from critics, audiences, and fans of the Book and TV series as well as it's predecessor, despite being a box office success.
  2. Kim Cattrall expressed no interest in reprising her role due to the storylines of this film, as well as an ongoing feud with her former co-star Sarah Jessica Parker.

Results[]

  • Sex and the City 3 was permanently cancelled.
  • A revival of Sex and the City titled And Just Like That... was made instead and began airing on HBO Max in December 2021. Most of the cast from the original series, such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis, Chris North, and the late Willie Garson, reprised their roles in the revival, with the exception of Kim Cattrall, whose character Samantha was mentioned as having moved to London and being estranged from Carrie and her friends after Carrie dropped Samantha as her publicist. Elements from the cancelled third film, such as Mr. Big's death, would be used for the revival, except for the storyline involving Samantha and Miranda's son Brady.
