Runaway Train was a planned film that was going to be made and released in the late 1960s, with director Joseph E. Levine and released by Embassy Pictures. It was also going to be shot in October 1966 for 16 weeks before it was cancelled.


The plot would have two escaped convicts who hide on board a stationary train, only for it to roll away, gradually picking up tremendous speed.

Why It Was Cancelled[]

  1. Kurosawa decides to go on Tora! Tora! Tora! instead.


  • The orignal planned version of the film was permanently cancelled. It was later replace with Andrei Konchalovsky and he directs the 1985 film.
