In May 2010, a CGI-animated movie based on the video game series RollerCoaster Tycoon was called in to be in the works by Sony Pictures Animation.[1]

Plot[]

The plot is presumably the same as the game. Game creator Chris Sawyer's description goes as follows: "Each game challenges players with open-ended amusement park management and development while allowing them to construct and customize their own unique roller coasters".

Development[]

The Hollywood Reporter was the first to get the news out surrounding this (their article about the announcement has since been taken down). Sony Pictures picked up the rights for the video game in 2010 and decided to turn it into a movie. Harald Zwart was planned to executively produce and possibly even direct. Screenwriters included David Ronn and Jay Scherick.

Why It Was Cancelled[]

  1. The cancellation reasons are unknown. However, it is likely due to the fact that the game's popularity declined harshly over the years, so Sony Pictures was no longer interested in making it.

Results[]

  • RollerCoaster Tycoon remained as a video game series.
  • The film planned for RollerCoaster Tycoon was permanently cancelled.
