Recess: The First Day of School was a direct-to-video film planned to be released in August 2004 and be fourth direct-to-video film, and the fifth film in the Recess franchise.[1]

Plot

T.J. and his gang (except Gus, who wouldn't have moved to town yet) adjust to fourth grade, making it a prequel to the events of the series.

Why It Was Cancelled

  1. Most of the cancellation reasons are unknown.
  2. John Lasseter was appointed as head of Disney two years after the release date in 2006 and called off of all future direct-to-DVD sequels.

Results

  • The film was permanently cancelled.
  • Recess: Taking the Fifth Grade and Recess: All Growed Down were released in December 2003 in place of this film.
