- Disney's animated version was permanently cancelled.
- In 2011, DreamWorks Animation got the rights to make a Puss in Boots film, in which the character first appears in Shrek 2, and eventually, Puss would spawn a spin-off from the Shrek franchise, with the 2011 film, and eventually a 2022 sequel, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.
