Puss in Boots: Nine Lives and 40 Thieves was an earlier version of Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. The film would serve as a sequel to Puss in Boots (2011) and a spin-off of the Shrek franchise.

The film would have the same plot as the final version of the film, but with several plot changes. Also, it would be an adaptation of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves.

Why It Was Cancelled[]
- DreamWorks was going through a great economic crisis.

- The original version was replaced with The Last Wish, which it was released on December 21, 2022 to critical acclaim and commercial success.
