In 2021, a film called Meet the Gillmans was announced and planned a release from DreamWorks Animation and Universal Pictures with Kirk DeMicco.

Production[]

On June 15, 2021, it was reported by GWW that DreamWorks Animation had an original feature called Meet the Gillmans set for release in 2022; directed by Paul Tibbit, written by Pam Brady with Chris Kuser and Christi Soper executive producing. A day later, it was reported that Laura Dern, Lana Condor & Michael Sheen were being eyed for roles in the film this time with production reported to start in 2022 instead. turns out some of that information was bogus false.[1] On December 12, 2022, the Deputy Managing Director of Universal Pictures International Italy: Massimo Proietti announced some of the major releases from Universal arriving to theatres in the coming semester. One of those was Meet the Gillmans with a release window of summer 2023.

Plot[]

The plot was currently unknown at the time, but it is possible that it would have had the same plot as Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken.

Why It Was Cancelled[]

  1. It's unknown why they changed the title, but it is likely that it was inspired by The Gillman from Creature from the Black Lagoon or the title Meet The Gillmans would have "The Gillmans Family" and would be confusing.

Result[]

  • In 2022, the film would be retitled to Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken, which was released on June 30, 2023.

Trivia[]

  • Curiously in Latin Spanish, the nickname title was translated as Conoce a los Gillman.
