Masters of the Universe 2 was a planned sequel to the 1987 Masters of the Universe film, intended to be released in 1989.

Plot

He-Man returns to Earth, disguised as a professional American football quarterback.

Why It Was Cancelled

  1. Masters of the Universe flopped at the box office.
  2. Most of the movie was reworked into Cyborg.
  3. Cannon Pictures began losing more money and eventually filed for bankruptcy in 1994.
  4. The main actors of the first film went to do other films.
  5. The interest for the Masters of the Universe franchise was declining during the late 1980s.

Result

  • The sequel was permanently cancelled and will be rebooted with a Masters of the Universe film scheduled for a 2021 release.
  • The first Masters of the Universe film is a stand alone film.
  • The film was never produced, and instead the science fiction film Cyborg with Jean-Claude Van Damme was released in 1989.[1]
