Madagascar 4 was supposed to be the fourth in the Madagascar franchise. However, production was halted when Anne Globe stated that it was too early to tell. Despite work being done on the film, it was removed from its May 18, 2018 release date.
Plot[]
The plot would start to probably focus around Alex, Marty, Melman, Gloria and the rest of the gang learning that they all belong in different places and searching for their own destinies in the final and emotional installment of this saga. The rest of the plot is unknown.
Why It Was Cancelled[]
- There is currently not that much information about the cancellation reasons except that the producers thought it was too early to tell if they should have a fourth film in the franchise.
- The 2014 spin-off film Penguins of Madagascar underperformed at the box office, along with Rise of the Guardians, Turbo and Mr. Peabody & Sherman forcing a massive write-down for the studio despite all the positive reviews those four films got from critics.
- Pacific Data Images shut down in 2015 and terminated over 500 DreamWorks employees.
- The fact that NBCUniversal bought DreamWorks in 2016 and the restructuring of the studio.
- There was a new policy for DreamWorks where they can release only two movies a year.

- The franchise ended up having a cartoon prequel/spin-off Peacock series as a result, known as Madagascar: A Little Wild, which lasted for 8 seasons.
