Before Jurassic Park III was released in 2001, an early draft was made for the film. The film was supposed to come out in 1999 and would be written by Craig Rosenberg.
The script was very different from that of the final film and would center around six unnamed college students are accidentally stranded on Site B, Isla Sorna. Alan Grant would probably return in some of of capacity.
Why It Was Cancelled
- Director Joe Johnston thought the script, while not poorly-written felt like a bad episode of Friends.
- Johnston also felt that no Jurassic Park fan would ever want to watch a movie in the franchise centering around a group of annoying adolescents.
- In 2001, Johnston directed a new version of the film which was released in July 2001, and the script was written by Peter Buchman, Alexander Payne, and Jim Taylor. The film stars Sam Neil, reprising his role as Dr. Alan Grant from the first film, as well as Tea Leoni and William H. Macy, etc.
- The idea of kids in the island would later be used as a basic story for the Netflix series, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous.
