According to The Wrap, in August 2014, Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment had secured the rights to Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles series of vampire books in order to make a new film series based on Rice's books. A remake of Interview with the Vampire was announced to be in development in May 2016 and would have been directed and written by Josh Boone, with Brian Gazer, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci as producers. [1] Jared Leto was considered to play Lestat de Lioncourt in the remake.

Plot[]

Despite being titled Interview with the Vampire, the plot for the remake would have been based on the aforementioned novel as well as featuring elements from The Vampire Lestat.

Why It Was Cancelled[]

  1. The rights for the Vampire Chronicles book series returned to Anne Rice's hands in November 2016, thus killing any possibilities for the film to be made.
