Independence Day 3 was a planned third film in the Independence Day series and wasn't known to have an official title. It was announced by Roland Emmerich shortly after Independence Day: Resurgence was released in theaters.[1]
Plot
Jake Morrison, Dylan Hiller, Patricia Whitmore, and Dr. David Levinson form an alliance to take down new aliens.
Why It Was Cancelled
- Independence Day: Resurgence received extremely negative reviews from critics and audiences alike.
- Independence Day: Resurgence failed at the box office.
- Sometime afterward, Disney merged with 20th Century Fox before cancelling the unsuccessful franchise.
- Dean Devlin decided not to make a third film following the negative reception and poor box office performance of Resurgence. However, Rolland Emmerich recently said that he has an idea for a third film. Despite all of that, there is still a highly unlikely chance there will be a third film. [2]
Result
- Independence Day 3 was permanently cancelled.
