Before the 2022 Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio animated film was completed, there was a different version than this one.

Plot[]

The original idea was similar to the final animated film, but with some differences; Mangiafuoco was originally going to be the main antagonist and was going to be voiced by Ron Perlman. We were going to have the human version of the Cat and he would be the faithful helper of the Fox (Count Volpe). And Tim Blake Nelson would do the voice of the Coachman.

Cast[]

  • Gregory Mann as Pinocchio
  • Ewan McGregor as Sebastian J. Cricket
  • David Bradley as Master Geppetto
  • Ron Perlman as Mangiafuoco
  • Christoph Waltz as Count Volpe and Gatto
  • Tilda Swinton as The Blue Fairy
  • Finn Wolfhard as Candlewick
  • Tim Blake Nelson as The Coachman

Why It Was Cancelled[]

  1. During half of production, Guillermo del Toro did not like the character of Mangiafuoco as a villain, since del Toro thought it was a fat villain cliché. And Mangiafuoco was discarded and replaced by Count Volpe as the villain, but the doll already made for Mangiafuoco would end up being repurposed as one of Count Volpe's circus employees.
  2. There were changes and rewrites in the script during the production of the animated film of Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio.

Results[]

  • This version of Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio was permanently cancelled.
  • The final version from Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio was released on Netflix and was a huge success.
