Cancelled Movies. Wiki

After the release of Star Wars in 1977, George Lucas had conceived of a sequel trilogy, but was cancelled in favor of the prequel trilogy. When Disney acquired Lucasfilm, he was brought in to do the sequel trilogy, before leaving due to creative differences from Disney.

George Lucas stated that his version of the Sequel Trilogy would have put the focus on Leia (as she attempted to build the New Republic, all while battling gangsters and former Imperials who had set up their own planets following the collapse of the Empire. Luke Skywalker would be tasked with rebuilding the Jedi Order from scratch and training a new generation of Jedi. "By the end of the trilogy Luke would have rebuilt much of the Jedi," Lucas said, "and we would have the renewal of the New Republic, with Leia, Senator Organa, becoming the Supreme Chancellor in charge of everything. So she ended up being the Chosen One."

Why It Was Cancelled[]

  1. George originally cancelled his plans for the sequel trilogy because he wanted to focus his time on raising his daughter.
  2. Disney rejected the ideas of his Sequel Trilogy.

  • Disney would release their version of the sequel trilogy, to mixed reception from critics and fans of the series.

  • George Lucas would later regret his decision to sell his company to Disney, and would go on in interviews saying why he didn't want a sequel trilogy in the first place.
  • There are rumors floating around that Disney is rethinking about the sequel trilogy and George Lucas is going to make a direct continuation to Return of the Jedi. This may be the upcoming New Republic film by Dave Filoni.
  • Darth Maul would have returned as the main villain of this trilogy alongside Darth Talon, a Sith Lord who first appeared in the Star Wars: Legacy comic series.
