Evangelion the Motion Picture was the tentative title for a cancelled live action adaptation of Neon Genesis Evangelion, a cult classic 1995-6 anime directed by Hideaki Anno and produced by Gainax with animation from Tatsunoko Productions.
Plot[]
The story would likely follow the original anime where fourteen-year-old Shinji Ikari as he became the reluctant pilot of a giant robot known as Evangelion. He battles monstrous Kaiju-like creatures known as Angels to prevent their destruction of humanity at the expense of his mental stability. But the rest is unknown.
Why was It cancelled?[]
- With ADV Films in significant trouble, financial backing became harder and harder to find. The project fell into limbo.
- ADV Films closed in 2009.
- Gainax Additionally, it has lost the rights to Evangelion to Studio Khara.

- The live action film is forever cancelled.
- Evangelion remained an anime with its 2 films Death and Rebirth and EoE.
- Rebuild of Evangelion was created in 2007 as a reboot of the saga, and ended in 2021.
