Development[]
While first announced in May 2022, the film would later face its unfortunate fate months later In August 2022, which will be discussed more prominently later. The film was greenlit by Aquaman: King of Atlantis co-creator Victor Courtright, who was planned to direct the film. Nothing much more is known about its development aside from this.[2]
Why It Was Cancelled[]
- Due to David Zaslav's step-in as the Warner Bros Discovery CEO, the WB-Discovery merger that happened on April 2022 resulted in many layoffs and shows/films leaving HBO Max (Now Max), along with cancelling a couple of their upcoming films/shows, these include not just Driftwood, but also Scoob! Holiday Haunt and Batgirl. Which led to a lawsuit in September 2022 alleging David Zaslav and other executives inflated HBO Max streaming subscriptions ahead of Warner Bros. merger with Discovery, duping “hundreds of thousands” of shareholders.
Results[]
- The film was permanently cancelled.
- Due to cancelling upcoming projects, WB Discovery has lost billions of dollars for its shameful amount of cancellations.
