On July 30, 2010, shortly after the release of their first film, Despicable Me, it was announced that Illumination Entertainment was developing another animated film based on the book.

The plot would possibly be same as a book.


Why It Was Cancelled[]

  • Illumination Entertainment rejected the pitch all together and instead focus on the Despicable Me franchise.
  • Illumination won’t make any live-action movies due to the negative response of Hop.



Cast[]

  • Frank Welker would have provided the vocal effects of Curious George.



Result[]

  • Universal decided to make more sequels to the 2006 film.
  • The film was permanently cancelled and faded into obscurity.
  • In August 2016, it was reported that Andrew Adamson was in negotiations to direct, write, and produce a live-action adaptation Curious George film for Universal Pictures, along with Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, David Kirschner, Jon Shapiro, and Erica Huggins serving as executive producers for it.
  • On March 24, 2020, Jim Taylor was brought on to re-write the film.
