Child's PlY 2010 Remake poster

Child's Play was a planned remake of the 1988 film to be written and directed by series creator, Don Mancini and produced by fellow co-creator, David Kirschner. It was confirmed during the original film's 20th anniversary, and was consistently mentioned by Mancini in a new audio commentary. The film would've been similar to the original, but would be "scarier" and "darker,"- more akin to the various horror remakes releasing around this time.

Cast[]

  • Brad Douriff as Chucky/Charles Lee Ray

Why It Was Cancelled[]

  1. The reasons for its cancellation are unknown, but it's likely that because of the first film's rights belonging to MGM, an agreement couldn't be reached between the studio and Don Mancini.
  2. It's possible that the negative reception towards Seed of Chucky significantly lowered interest in the Chucky franchise, thus cancelling plans for the remake.

Results[]

  • Don Mancini and David Kirschner would choose to make Curse of Chucky, which would act as a direct follow-up to Seed of Chucky.
  • MGM would release their own remake of Child's Play in 2019, which received mixed reviews and was a decent box office success.
