Franchise Pictures was a film studio that was formed in 1998 in order to help rescue movie stars who were starring in films that were failing at the box office. However, sometime in 2000 (the year Battlefield Earth was released) the studio was under investigation for fraudulent activity. The studio filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2004 after a German movie company called Intertainment A.G. won a lawsuit against them.
