Cancelled Movies. Wiki

Batgirl was a planned movie in the DC Extended Universe. Although filmed, the movie's release on streaming in late 2022 was cancelled and never to see the light of day.

Intended to follow the events of The Flash following the reboot of the universe. Barbara Gordon, the daughter of police commissioner James Gordon, takes up the mantle of Batgirl and battles against career criminal and arsonist Garfield Lynns, a.k.a. Firefly. During this event she would have been mentored by Bruce Wayne/Batman, with Michael Keaton reprising the role.

  • Lesile Grace as Barbara Gordan/Batgirl
  • Brendan Fraser as Garfield Lynns/Firefly
  • Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne/Batman
  • JK Simmons as Commissioner Gordan

Why It Was Cancelled[]

  • It did not fit into Warner Bros Discovery’s plans for James Gunn's new DC Universe on film.
  • Warner Bros Discovery no longer wanted superhero movies to go straight to streaming.
  • The film allegedly did not do well in test screenings with audiences (although some sources dispute this claim).
  • Discovery Channel bought Warner Brothers from AT&T, the movie became an outdated AT&T project.
  • Disruptions in filming and release schedules due to Coronavirus pandemic and behind the scenes issues at Warner Bros may have contributed to it. The Flash was intended to release prior to Batgirl (as the plotline saw the DCEU being rebooted) but this film was delayed, so if Batgirl was released it would have been prior to the Flash as that film wasn't released until 2023.

  • The film, along with another WB Films "Scoob: Holiday Haunt and Coyote vs Acme" has been cancelled.
  • There is a hashtag to revive and finish the project, which is called #SaveBatgirl.
