Pan's Labyrinth

3993 was a planned sequel to the 2006 Mexican/Spanish dark fantasy drama film Pan's Labyrinth. Guillermo del Toro was to return as director.

Unknown, although it was supposed to take place after the events of Pan's Labyrinth while still taking place in Franco era Spain.

Why It Was Cancelled[]

  • Guillermo del Toro abandoned the project to direct Hellboy II: The Golden Army.

  • Pan's Labyrinth (El Laberinto del Fauno) and The Devil's Backbone (El Espinazo del Diablo) ended up as part of an unofficial Spanish Civil War duology.
  • In 2022, Del Toro's Netflix animated film, Pinocchio served as a third film in the unofficial war trilogy alongside with The Devil's Backbone and Pan's Labyrinth, despite the last two films set in Spain.

  • It was originally intended to be the third and final installment of Del Toro's Spanish Civil War trilogy (Devil's Backbone and Pan's Labyrinth).
  • As of now, Pan's Labyrinth is the last film of Del Toro's career to be spoken entirely in Spanish (Castilian dialect).
