Pan's Labyrinth

3993 was a planned sequel to the 2006 Mexican/Spanish dark fantasy drama film Pan's Labyrinth. Guillermo del Toro was to return as director.

Plot[]

Unknown, although it was supposed to take place after the events of Pan's Labyrinth while still taking place in Franco era Spain.

Why It Was Cancelled[]

  • Guillermo del Toro abandoned the project to direct Hellboy II: The Golden Army.

Result[]

  • Pan's Labyrinth (El Laberinto del Fauno) and The Devil's Backbone (El Espinazo del Diablo) ended up as part of an unofficial Spanish Civil War duology.
  • In 2022, Del Toro's Netflix animated film, Pinocchio served as a third film in the unofficial war trilogy alongside with The Devil's Backbone and Pan's Labyrinth, despite the last two films set in Spain.

  • It was originally intended to be the third and final installment of Del Toro's Spanish Civil War trilogy (Devil's Backbone and Pan's Labyrinth).
  • As of now, Pan's Labyrinth is the last film of Del Toro's career to be spoken entirely in Spanish (Castilian dialect).
