Note: Please do not add "Ivan Reitman died in February 2022.", because this film was proposed before he died. Ghostbusters III: Hellbent or Ghostbusters III (Original Version) was the proposed sequel to Ghostbusters II. The film was announced in 1999, but went through many production problems throughout the years.
Plot[]
The plot would involve Ray, Winston, Egon and Peter encountering ghosts in a Hellish version of New York City and eventually encountering the devil himself. A new team of Ghostbusters would also be introduced.

- There was a video game with most of the original cast returning called Ghostbusters: The Video Game, which was released in 2009 (which served as a continuation from Ghosbusters II).
- The original version of Ghostbusters III was permanently cancelled.
- In 2016, Sony released a reboot with four women as our Ghostbusters. However, the film was a box office failure and a critical flop due to how offensive the film was with a bunch of jokes that weren't amusing to critics and audiences, and the fact that people were being accused of being sexist since the film only had women in it instead of men.
- The film was reworked into Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which was originally scheduled to be released on July 10, 2020. However, the release date was changed to November 11, 2021 and subsequently November 19th, 2021 following the coronavirus. Ivan Reitman served as producer while his son Jason directed the film. The film stared new cast members, including most of the original cast reprising their roles. The film also ignored the events of the 2009 video game along with the 2016 reboot and is a direct sequel to the original films. Afterlife may have some elements from Hellbent be reworked into Afterlife.
